The exam is conducted for admission to NISER and Department of Atomic Energy, University of Mumbai. There is a total of 219 seats in the Integrated M.Sc. program for which the entrance exam is conducted. This program aims to identify and train students who could carry cutting edge scientific research in the country. NEST 2017 exam was conducted on May 27, 2017, at 124 centers across 60 cities in the country.

All those successful students who have qualified the NEST exam will be called for Counselling process. The number of students in the merit list will be kept to a reasonable limit. As per the information on the official website, a merit rank does not guarantee admission into the programme.
The Students must also remember that their name would feature in the merit list only if they acquire both SMAS (Section-wise Minimum Admissible Score) and MAS (Minimum Admissible Score).
While SMAS are 20% of the average of the top 100 scores, MAS is 50% of the total score that is a candidate must score minimum 90 marks in the exam to be featured in the merit list. The Counselling schedule will be announced shortly on the official website.
